Microsoft office professional 2007 upgrade to 2013 free –

 

Trying to decide the best route here. We have about 50 PCs with Office and want to upgrade to Office Currently on in-house Exchange , which was installed a couple years ago, so they are not interested in going to hosted Exchange until they get a few more years of life out of that project. We dont have office pro, so what i did was configured the standard installer using the office configuration tool and entered our MAK and all that.

We did basically the same project last year. We have an in-house Exchange 13 box and moved to o for the office suite and Sharepoint. It makes sense in the log run and gives you upgrade rights to each new version that comes out. With the new version already around the corner again now it might be something to think about. Licensing aside, you need to think about uninstalling Office as well – the Office does not remove or “upgrade” – it installs it alongside.

That said, Outlook and will not coexist so if you plan on keeping both versions of Office, you need to at least uninstall the old Outlook.

You can have the installer customized via the OCT. This will give you the ability to enter the key, organization name, default settings etc. Then have it run in a suppressed model so that the user does not see it running. How does the O Office get deployed compared to retail and volume license versions? Do you have a bunch of keys to manage and a bunch of downloads like retail? Or is there an MSI installer like with volume licenses? Office from O is tied into the userid – no keys or anything.

You assign the appropriate license to the O account assigned to the user. When you install or start any of the Office programs, you sign in as the user. You can download a local installer for the O Office pieces, deploy it the way you want, etc.

O could be used as well, but I would never consider retail licensing for anything more than one seat. Also, you don’t get any mass deployment options with retail. You can still use the office suite and point users to the clould too. You do not have to purchase all licenses.

We have about 25 users on office while the rest are using office until microsoft will not allow that version on their hosted exchange. I have to visit each user individually to change their profile from our inhouse exchange to the hosted exchange but i have a meer computers and have spread it out over a few weeks.

I have about 10 left to go before i’m done. That being said, it’s silly not to go with O at this point. The Office rights alone are cheaper than an OEM copy of Office on a 4ish year refresh cycle, and retail with individual MS accounts are not a thing you want to get into. Office is the worst. Have you seen “Trust Center”? Pure evil. It will drive you to drink. Never consider these. CapEx or OpEx. Traditional volume licensing is typically a capital expense.

O is an operational expense. Your accounting department will tell you which one is better for the organization. We have 64 users we are going to upgrade to from If we are ever audited the process is simple. How many licenses do we own show purchase receipt and how many deployments run Spiceworks inventory report. It is by far MS’s easiest deployment. If I had hundreds of users and time was a factor I would go with volume keys.

If not go with the PKC. They have made them more friendly as they are transferable,. It was only after I found out the hard way that I discovered truckloads of other people around the planet also got stung the same way as me. Every version of Office ever released since day dot gave the installer the ability to choose what features they do and don’t want to install so in our case we didn’t want Publisher on every PC nor Outlook some machines intentionally use Outlook Web Access instead.

The retail versions of Office give you no choice as to what to install, it just chucks everything and I mean everything on the machine. When I phoned MS to ask how I get to the customise screen that lets me choose which “features” I want to install and more importantly, which ones I don’t, they replied “oh MS has decided what suits your needs best and the software will automatically install it all for you” Since when did MS know what I wanted or not if they did, Win8 never would have seen the light of day.

After several rounds of debating and trying to make MS support person realise I have zero need or interest in the shovelware inclusions and definitely did NOT want OneNote nor SkyDrive and in some cases Outlook installed on some machines and kept getting the same canned reply “It’s been determined that your MS experience would be best served with those features so they will be installed by default”, I could see that no amount of arguing was going to get through the arrogance.

Searching the net horrified me at how many other people who have had the last 14 versions of Office and performed customised installs suddenly found that little gem has been ripped out of From what I can find, it seems the only way to perform a custom install of Office is to forget the retail versions and go with the more expensive Volume Licensing version which then gives you access to a downloadable customisable installation package.

Personally I find it criminal that a software company thinks they should decide which applications I install on which machine – if I pay for a suite, I and only I should decide which sections of that suite make it to the desktop. Our proof of purchases were Amazon. We keep the PKC’s in a spreadsheet and have found them easy to move as needed. The PKC requires you to setup an account to install from. We keep them all with generic emails that forward to a single IT dept email box officeX with X being the ref for the key as users come and go we just reassign it.

Each license can be moved once every 6 months or sooner if a computer fails. I agree, there is an overhead component that needs to be taken into consideration and at a certain point the cost of volume licenses becomes justified. Based on how many end users we have we do not see that point in the near or distant future. Also, you may want to contact a reseller or MS directly, as I believe they may give you credit against your existing Exchange open licenses basically a trade-in to switch to O, and with O you can continue to run the on-prem Exchange until you’re ready to migrate.

How are you deploying the retail version so quickly? I have never seen it go that quickly, and I have seen some take all day when customers have slow internet, and then need to do an online repair when something doesn’t work. Your Retail key is now useless, you can throw it away. To keep check which pc with which install key, you will need a spreadsheet as MS website will not let you enter any kind of note.
